Dear participants and organizers of the ScanBalt Forum,

Allow me to extend to you my sincere congratulations on the 10th anniversary of the Forum, which focuses on the protection of our common region, its nature and its people. The clean environment of the Baltic Sea and healthy people living around it mean improved quality of life, thus making the region more attractive to live and work.

Lithuania is fully involved in the implementation of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. It will be one of the main priorities during the Lithuania' s EU Presidency. It is clear that key challenges, particularly environmental, facing the region cannot be solved by individual countries alone.

Environment is the first cornerstone of the Strategy. I am convinced that the ScanBalt Forum will help to better share information and find modem ways to improve the environmental condition of the Baltic Sea.

The Forum is also in the position to contribute to the other cornerstone of the Strategy, i.e. prosperity. The Baltic Sea Region should become a dynamic and open area for innovations, sustained economic growth, modem infrastructure, and competitive business environment stimulating investment and trade. I am sure that the Forum is a suitable platform for finding potential partners for business and science cooperation. Prosperity is directly related to innovations and knowledge-based economy. The ScanBalt Forum is a good example of a regional innovations network that promotes a closer cross-Baltic cooperation through the integration of universities, science and research centres.

I wish all the participants success in networking and establishing new opportunities for cooperation!

Yours sincerely,

Andrius Kubilius
